GLOBE
Globe is one of the most advanced plants in the world devoted exclusively to the design and manufacture of fire fighters protective clothing. And it's the first in the Western Hemisphere to be ISO-9001 Certified, further assurance of consistent quality.
Continuing research and investment into better protection and more efficient manufacturing are hallmarks of Globe today. For example, not just one or two, but three Gerber Cutters supply garment components to some 300 skilled stitchers. Their sophisticated CAD (computer assisted design) system guarantees exact size consistency, whether you order your turnout today or a year from today. Their in-house testing lab maintains consistent quality in the dozens of materials that go into each turnout. And their computer-designed spec writing updates hundreds of clothing options so that even the smallest department can easily keep pace with the latest developments at Globe.
Globe's structural fire fighting gear is built in compliance with the latest (1997) Edition of NFPA Standard #1971. This is a consensus standard that was written by a committee representing all walks of the fire service, such as firefighters, manufactures and testing organizations.
The 1997 Edition includes a number of new tests and requirements intended to improve firefighter safety. At the head of the list are the Whole Garment Integrity ("Shower") Test and the Viral Penetration Test. Just a few of the requirements are highlighted here:
Whole Garment Integrity (Shower Test)-A mannequin dressed in a Globe turnout passed NFPA's 20 minute shower test against five high-pressure nozzles in four different orientations.
Protection Against Viral (Bacteriophage) Penetration-Globe Moisture Barriers and seams allowed no penetration of bloodborne pathogens following a 1-hour exposure, when tested after five wash/dry cycles and a 10-minute hot air oven preconditioning at 285 Degrees.
Six Common Liquids Penetration Test for protection from hydraulic fluid, 3% AFFF foam, water, hexane, battery acid and swimming pool chlorine.
Outer Shell Durability (Grab Strength) Requirement.
Annual Retesting of all Materials and Components.
Random Whole Garment Testing.
Globe shares NFPA's commitment to firefighter safety through their ongoing research and development program aimed at bringing new materials, features and design to the fire service.
